PROFINET hardware and software applications using the ASIC ERTEC 200 or ERTEC 400 can be developed and tested using the ERTEC 200 PN IO starter kit.

The comprehensive, fully-coordinated hardware and software components considerably reduce the development costs for PROFINET IO devices, e.g. field devices, to a minimum.

PROFINET IO uses Switched Ethernet with a transmission rate of 100 Mbit/s as the basis for communication.

The Enhanced Real-Time Ethernet Controller (ERTEC) ASICs ERTEC 200 and ERTEC 400 have been specially developed for use in high-performance automation systems. They support the system properties defined in the PROFINET specification, including the hard real-time requirements Real-Time (RT) and Isochronous Real-Time (IRT), for example.

Considerable cost savings are achieved in hardware design due to the integrated switching functionality and the ARM subsystem integrated into the ERTEC ASICs for processing the user software.

Hardware included

• Evaluation Board 200 (EB200);
  an EB200 is included in the package as a PROFINET IO device test environment for user-specific applications.
• ERTEC-ASICs;
  for the development of user-specific hardware, 5 ERTEC 200 ASICs are included in the package.
• PROFINET cable/connector;
  each starter kit package contains 1 PROFINET cable (5 m in length), 2 Fast Connect plugs and 1 stripping tool, for easy preassembly of a PROFINET cable.
• Power supply;
  the starter kit contains 1 plug-in power supply for supplying the EB200.
• Hardware debugger;
  1 JTAG debugger is included in the package for development support.

Software included

• CD "SK-ERTEC 200 PN IO for eCOS V3.1";
  the PROFINET IO device stack including application examples in source code for porting to the supplied EB200. All the tools required for PN IO device development that do not require a license are included on the CD.
• SIMATIC NET CD "IE SOFTNET PN IO 2008";
  incl. PC-based PN IO controller and engineering tool "NCM PC" for operation with Windows XP.

• Comprehensive documentation material in English and German is available on the CD "SK-ERTEC 200 PN IO for eCOS V3.1". You can save valuable time during the commissioning phase thanks to the newly created guide.

Note: The PROFINET IO device stack is supplied in source code, so porting to other operating systems is possible.

Licenses

The ERTEC 200 PN IO starter kit contains a development license that authorizes the user to develop and test PROFINET IO devices based on ERTEC 200.

When the development process has been completed and certification has been obtained, one product line license per product line must be purchased for the production of series devices (Order No.: 6ES7195-3BC10-0YA0).

Updates

Further developments in the functionality of the DevKits are supplied to our registered customers via free updates. This ensures that continuous and innovative further development of the data terminals is possible at low cost due to the integrated PROFINET functionality.

The customer must register free of charge in order to receive the function updates. The software product certificate and the delivery note must be sent in to our Supportcenter ComDeC for this purpose.

Expansion possibility: Starter kit ERTEC 200 PN IO

The supplied controller test partner "SOFTNET PN IO" is suitable for development of a PROFINET IO device of conformance class B thanks to its communication link over a standard Ethernet interface on the developer PC.

To evaluate high-performance applications with IRT functionality, the controller test partner "Communications Processor 1616" (CP1616, Order No.: 6GK1161-6AA01) is required.

When the CP1616 is acquired, the customer has the same evaluation possibilities as with the DK-ERTEC 200 PN IO V3.1.

Successful evaluation with the CP1616 requires the use of the released test software of the CP1616.

The necessary software components and supplementary documentation available free of charge provided that the completed registration form for the ERTEC 200 PN IO V3.1 starter kit as well as the two delivery notes for the "Starter kit ERTEC 200 PN IO V3.1" and "CP1616" are sent in.

Dispatch takes places after successful registration over a secure download connection to our Competence Center ComDeC.

The accredited testing and certification laboratories, ComDeC and PIC, are available to accompany the entire product development cycle, from the initial information phase via assistance with hardware and software design through to termination of the development by means of certification.
